Working with oils can seem intimidating, but this class offers a slow, step-by-step approach. We’ll start with the basics, exploring color theory, mixing, and the principles of design before working our way towards full compositions. You’ll explore the technical side of oil painting, thin-thick layering techniques, how to use mediums, how to properly clean your brushes and tools, while also appreciating the conceptual side – looking at a wide variety of artwork from oil painting’s past and present to learn how versatile it is. This class is excellent for those who have little to no experience in painting – oil or otherwise – as well as those who have a little painting experience who are looking to level up their skill set. All materials included. This class will work with traditional oil paint with zero-odor solvent and safflower oil mixing gel. We'll teach you how to work safely and smartly with these materials so that they can be reused and reconstituted with very little waste. The registration includes an extra materials fee.
