Watercolor Intensive Adult Class Fridays, 7:00pm - 8:30 pm April 10 - May 15 (6 classes) Instructor: Branden Koch This six week adult watercolor intensive is designed to present a comprehensive overview of this versatile medium and introduce the basic building blocks of how to use it, but also allowing plenty of space to learn through playful problem solving. Fun and pressure-free guided lessons will help you build your skill set and confidence through exercises designed to challenge, but not frustrate! We will explore how to work with tube watercolor to achieve different effects in traditional picture making, which covers color mixing, a bit of color theory, site-mixing with color, working/thinking in layers, dry brush / wet-on-wet, and practicing various techniques to achieve an understanding of how you can go forth and paint with a few tools under your belt! Please note: This class will forgo the (important) exercise of making a color wheel and instead dive in to understanding the materiality of the medium. No prior experience necessary. All materials included . Week 1 : Intro to tube watercolor / tools. Painting singular objects / monochrome / limited palette. Week 2: Wet on wet (bleed) and dry brush (texture) echniques / (rendering light and shadow using complementary colors). Understanding / predicting surface area as it correlates to pigment and coverage. Week 3: Begin small color mixing/matching exercise. Week 4: Rendering single objects with multiple light sources (how to render shadow with complimentary color) Week 5: Four thumbnails / simple still life (three objects), practice scaling. Week 6: 9"x12" Still Life painting from observation. (This class will run with at least 5 participants)
