What we offer:

Cover Image: Taylor Mezo's teapots. "Clay Makers" Wednesdays 4:30pm -5:30pm (Ages 8-12) April 10 - May 29 (8 classes) All materials included. We're so happy to welcome local Pittsburgh-based artist Taylor Mezo to our studio, for the Spring semester! In this class, Taylor will guide young makers on a journey in all things hand-built clay. We will work with a variety of materials: polymer sculpey, air dry, and earthenware clays, just to name a few, working them to make a range of objects from the utilitarian to the decorative, sculptural, and wearable, with many uniquely different techniques in between. Taylor Mezo (she/they) is a ceramic artist from Illinois, currently living in Pittsburgh PA. She works primarily in sculptural and functional ware, using red earthenware to create vessels utilizing a mixture of wheel throwing and hand building techniques. She is inspired by Retro fashion, flora and fauna, Lisa Frank, classic cars, drag performers, mid-century modern furniture, and even cartoons from the 90s. Her work ranges between fun and functional objects to decorative wearables. Check out Taylor's work on her website : https://www.tayloramezo.com Just a note: We are still waiting on the edge of our seats for the installation of our new ceramic kiln! With a little luck, everything will be up and running by the time this class begins, and we'll be able to fire clay and work with colorful glazes. But, if we are still patiently waiting, this class will use every other kind of clay that doesn't require firing (there is a lot!). :)
