What we offer:

Textile Travels Camp II (PM) 1PM - 4PM / JULY 20 - 24 / M - F / AGES 8-13 In this camp we will take a journey in textiles from the ancient unknown origins of crochet to contemporary artists' use of fabrics to make art. Did you know that the word “crochet” is derived from the French word “croc” meaning “small hook?” This form of manipulating fibers into a knotted functional fabric possibly had its origins as early as 6500BC in Northern Africa and Persia. Being such an ancient form of making, crochet has gone through several iterations and functions...but maybe our favorite is a modern Japanese take on crochet called “Amigurumi,” which uses crochet to make super cute little stuffies, which we will teach you how to make in this camp! Additionally, will also explore working with fun colors and textures in making small weavings, fabric collages that look like paintings, and possibly a bit of sewing too. This is a great multi media textile-focused camp that ‘weaves’ in a bit of history as well as learning a new skill.
