Tuesdays (Sept 15 - Nov 10) Ages 11-13 7pm-8pm 9 Classes $315 Instructor: Branden Koch This Teen watercolor intensive is designed to present a comprehensive overview of this versatile medium and introduce the basic technical building blocks of how to use it, but also allowing plenty of space to learn through playful problem solving. Fun and pressure-free guided lessons will help you build your skill set and confidence through exercises designed to challenge, but not frustrate! We will explore how to work with tube watercolors to achieve different effects in traditional picture making, which covers color mixing, a bit of color theory, site-mixing with color, working/thinking in layers, dry brush / wet-on-wet, and practicing various techniques to achieve an understanding of how you can go forth and paint with a few tools under your belt! No prior experience necessary: Just a willingness to learn with an attention to details, while listening to instructions. A signed Teen Studio agreement will be mandatory for participation. All materials included / 9 classes total. Week 1 : Intro to tube watercolor / tools. Mixing a color wheel system, understanding its purpose and use. Week 2: Painting singular objects / monochrome / limited palette. Week 3: Wet on wet (bleed) and dry brush (texture) echniques / (rendering light and shadow using complementary colors). Understanding / predicting surface area as it correlates to pigment and coverage. Week 4: Begin small color mixing/matching exercise. Week 5: Rendering single objects with multiple light sources (how to render shadow with complimentary color) Week 6: Four thumbnails / simple still life (three objects), practice scaling. Week 7: 9"x12" Still Life painting from observation. Week 8" part 1: 9"x12" slow painting from 2D reference. Week 9 part 2: 9"x12" slow painting from 2D reference.
