What we offer:
Metamorphosis Adult Class Thursdays Sept 17 - Oct 29 7:00pm - 8:30 pm (7 classes) $315 / Instructor: Branden Koch / A caterpillar doesn't become a butterfly by adding wings to itself. It transforms through a complete cellular reorganization...somehow retaining knowledge through this transformation, and become another thing completely. In "Metamorphosis," you'll create a single artwork and guide it through seven stages of radical transformation by following certain rules or constraints: removing, weathering, repairing, translating, collaborating, rebuilding, and resolving - challenging you to rethink what an artwork can become, and how it (and you) may change through that journey. Working with 22"x 30" cold press 300# cotton paper as our substrate, paint, drawing media, collage, textiles, natural materials, and experimental processes, you'll discover how things may evolve when they are pushed beyond their original intentions. Rather than striving for perfection, this course celebrates curiosity, adaptation, and the unexpected. No experience or "talent" is required. The emphasis is on exploration, risk-taking, and learning through process....finding logic or non-logic within different systems or non-systems is your method. By the end of the course, you'll have one deeply transformed artwork that bears the visible history of every decision, every accident, and every stage of its evolution. What we'll do (This is subject to change, of course!): Week 1: Birth: You may only add. Week 2: Loss : You must remove or subtract. Week 3: Chance: Outside forces control or alter the work. Week 4: Repair : Every alteration must be visible. Week 5: Translation : Transform the piece into another language Week 6: Intervention : Letting go. Week 7 : Evolution : Arriving at Resolve
