What we offer:

This fun and intensive 10 week class will welcome beginning and intermediate Adult students alike to explore several different painting mediums, review their technical application, and practice several iterations of painting to help improve their chops. We will cover a lot of painterly-territory, and learn how water-based mediums relate with a logic of applied-thinking that can be used to create a variety of effects in picture making. Our instructor will offer a mix of technical demonstrations and playful low-pressure projects in a casual atmosphere designed to help you achieve certain painterly applications for each medium, and strengthen you familiarity and skill of painting. No prior experience necessary, but if you do have prior experience you won't be bored! (it's good to practice :) This class will meet Thursday evenings 7pm-8:40pm. * Note the extended time. Beginning October 5 - Dec 14. (No class wee of Nov 23rd). Weekly Curriculum is as follows: Week 1: Tube Watercolor / color wheel / what the medium does Week 2: Tube Watercolor / color mixing observational painting from collage Week 3: Tube Watercolor / small studies: observational paintings / close looking Week 4: Tempera paints / "fat over lean, "a la prima," active brushwork. Week 5: Tempera paints / 4 small observations / complimentary colors. Week 6: Tempera paints / duration painting : still life on canvas, space and pattern Week 7: Acrylic / 'fat over lean,' transparent/opaque/impasto/mediums/tools Week 8 : Acrylic / 4 small observations using variety of effects on paper and board. Week 9: Acrylic / durational painting on gessoed canvas / still life Week 10: Acrylic / painting on rigid or smooth surfaces, still life or abstraction. The cost of this course includes a materials fee which covers all prepared painting surfaces, paint mediums, and equipment. (Total cost is approximately $35/class x 10 weeks) Please bring your own smock or wear art studio clothes. :) This course will be taught by Branden.
