Thursday eves / Adult Class / 7p-8:30pm / January 11 - Feb 29 / 8 classes. This fun 8-session art appreciation mini-course for adults will introduce several artists throughout 20th - 21st C. Modern Art history and explore a variety of Paintings related to each of their work. In each class, we'll take a look at a few examples of an artist's work, and discuss a bit of the art history and context of the artist's life in their approach to making art. Students will explore a variety of fun and engaging painting-centric projects that approach making art through the lens of each artist, while learning about paint application and composition in the process. This class will run 75 minutes per session, and incorporate visual images of each artist on our projection screen or through other media, with a brief 10 min lecture/discussion lead by the instructor. Then, an introduction to the project and a making session for about 60 min. Small 2D works will be made in a variety of painterly combinations: a different approach every week, including: watercolor, tempera, acrylic, water soluble oil paint, inks, pigment suspensions, etc. This is a great opportunity for adults to try out making art with a variety of different painting media, while learning about technique and a bit of art historical content in the process. All materials included!
