What we offer:
In this 10 week intensive course, adult students will explore a variety of printmaking techniques and methods of making multiples, one-of-a-kind prints, and surface design on canvas. Get a feel for experimenting with methods of printmaking that can be used to design greeting cards, stationary, original artworks, gifts, wearables, etc. Class will meet Wednesdays, October 4 - Dec 13 (No class Week of November 22). 7pm-8:45pm This course will include introductory instruction in the following methods: Week 1. - "Gelli Plate" Acrylic Monotype Printmaking Week 2. - "Gelli Plate" Acrylic image transfer monotype Printmaking (this is a time consuming process, and can be tricky usually requiring several attempts). Week 3. - Collograph Printmaking / Ink Week 4. - Lino cut printmaking and Chine collé / Akua Ink Week 5. - Lino cut printmaking and Chine collé / Akua Ink Week 6. - Tetra Pak and Acrylic Plate drypoint Intaglio / Akua Ink Week 7. - "Kitchen Table" Lithography / Portland Black oil based ink Week 8. - Ink Monotype Printmaking on acrylic plates or extra work session Week 9. - Block Printing Surface Design on canvas grocery tote bags / block ink Week 10. - Paper Marbling Monotype Process We will teach you how to use an etching printing press, baren tools, spoon-burnishing techniques, and other accessible methods for accessible printmaking. We will also work with a variety of papers and inks to learn about using their effects and properties to make our prints sing. No previous experience necessary, our classes are a fun and casual learning environment. Since printmaking can be quite time-consuming, needing multiple iterations and adjusting plate-technicalities to perfect your print, we may need to spend two classes on a few of these methods. Please note the extended time (105min) for each class, meeting Wednesdays 7pm - 8:45pm. This should give ample time for making several works without having to rush. The cost of this course includes a materials fee which includes all ink, papers, equipment, and textiles. (Total cost is approximately $35/class x 10 weeks) Please bring your own smock or wear art studio clothes. We will use mostly washable inks, but for some projects we must use acrylic paint, gesso, or oil based portland black intaglio ink, both of which are not washable :) This course will be co-taught by Kate and Branden
