Spring 2023 Classes Preview 

(8 Weeks: April 10 - June 3)

Classes will run from April 10 - June 3.


Mondays

After School Puppetry (ages 6-10) 4:30p-5:30p

($225 per student) with Kate & Jamie  

Class begins April 10. 

Have you ever wanted to learn about making puppets? This class will explore a variety of expressive puppet making forms: cut-silhouettes, marionettes, hand and finger puppets, just to name a few. We will also look at artists who have made puppets an integral part of their work for personal expression, storytelling, and entertaining audiences of all ages. Students will explore a variety of material constructions while engineering designs that surprise and perform with movement and dance, light and shadow.     
 


 

Tuesdays
After School Clay (8-12yrs) 4:30p-5:30p  

($240 per student) with Grace & Branden

Class begins April 11. 

Join us after school to explore working with clay!  We will investigate a variety of making-techniques with different kinds of clay and themes. This course will introduce students to the making, glazing, and firing process, of clay objects and vessels, as well as a variety of sculptural building techniques involving coil & slab, hand-building and 3D carving. Registration includes a materials and firing fee for this 8-class course. Students can expect to have at least four completed projects by the end of this class.   


 

Evening Class, Beginners Watercolor. (Adults)  7p-8:30p  

($240 per student) with Branden  

Class begins April 11. 

This adult watercolor course is designed to present a comprehensive overview of this versatile medium and introduce the basic building blocks of how to use it. We will explore color mixing, color wheel / color theory, basic painting technique, and eventually, take on an observational painting from still life. Fun and pressure-free guided lessons will help you build your skill set and confidence through exercises designed to challenge, and not frustrate! No prior experience necessary. All materials included. This class is intended for new students who have not previously taken our Watercolor Classes.


 

Wednesdays

After School “Drawing Worlds” (9-11 yrs) 4:30p-5:30pm  

($200 per student)  with Branden & Camille
Class begins April 12. 

This 8-week exploratory class will focus on the process of drawing with a variety of materials. We will look at different processes and methods of working with several drawing materials, and allow for fun experimentation to build imaginary worlds and personal explorations throughout. Traditionally, Drawing encompasses a variety of forms of 2D works on paper or different surfaces that accept the movement and textures of mark-making. Students can expect to work with charcoal, pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, and pen, while exploring the styles of different artists along the way.

 

Thursdays

After School “Artist Stories III” (5-8 yrs) 4:30p-5:30p
($200 per student) with Kate & Ava
Class begins April 13. 

A continuation of our popular Thursday series! NEW ARTISTS! NEW STORIES. What does it mean to be an artist? In this class we’ll learn about artists from different times, places, and cultures that can inspire us to tell our own stories through many different mediums and techniques. Some of the artists we'll learn about include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Romare Bearden, and Paul Klee. Students will also create their own artist books to record sketches and ideas.

Evening Class, Artist Worlds II (Adults only) 7p-8:30p 

($240 per student) with Branden
Class begins April 13. 

 A continuation from our Winter section: this fun 8-session mini-course for adults will introduce several artists and themes throughout art history and explore a variety of mediums and aesthetics related to each of their work. In each class, we'll take a look at a few examples of an artist's work via a 30 minute mini-slide lecture, and discuss a bit of the art history and context of the artist's lives and their approach to making art. Then, students will explore fun and engaging projects that approach making art through the lens of these artists, while learning about combinations of different media in the process. Students can expect to learn a bit of art history, the life of artists, and explore a medium, technique, or theme that they may not have been familiar with, while exploring self-driven subject matter that can be personal, political, or whimsical in the process.  

Fridays

After School "Painting" (ages 12-15 yrs) 

($240 per student) with Branden & Logan
Class begins April 14. 

This 8-week course will focus on the process and fundamentals of working with water-based painting for young artists. We will explore the work of several artists throughout history, and learn a few technical aspects of the medium while focusing on process. Fun and exploratory projects will be based on various styles of painting on 2D surfaces, as well as color mixing, basic color theory, and learning to achieve and control a variety of effects while working with different kinds of brushes and tools.   

 
 

Saturdays

"Adventures in Painting" (ages 5-8)  10a - 11a  

($240 per student) with Kate & Ava
Class begins April 15. 

In this class, students will explore a variety of painting themes from the whimsical and imaginary to the observational reference, and work with different color worlds as they apply to creating different vibes for a painted subject: still-life, landscape, portraits and more. Students will also have the opportunity to make paintings on a variety of surfaces, including canvas, wood panels and papers, to investigate the expression of painting with different textures.
