Summer Camps 2023 Preview 


Our Summer Camp 2023 registration will open

February 26, at noon.

Classes will run from June 26 - August 18.

Join us this summer for our fun, week-long camps for children ages 5-10. Each camp is held for 3 hours either in the morning or afternoon. Each week will follow a new theme where children will be exposed to a wide variety of materials and art experiences, alongside experienced and nurturing teachers. Students will have the opportunity for outdoor play at Lincoln Elementary playground or creative play at the studio in case of inclement weather.

Enrollment is capped for each camp between 12-14 students.

 

A typical camp schedule is as follows:

 

9 - 9:15 or 1-1:15  -  Arrival/Morning/Afternoon Meeting

9:15-10:30 or 1:15-2:30  -  Art-making Activity 

10:30-11 or 2:30 - 3  -  Break/Snack/Outside/Play

11-12 or 3-4 - Art-making Activity/Cleanup/Good-bye Meeting

Camp 1

June 26 - 30 : "Beading and Jewelry" Jr. 

(Ages 5-8)

9am-12pm

If your camper has always wanted to learn the art of jewelry-making, join us for a wonderful week of creativity. From necklaces and bracelets to keychains and custom clay beads, campers will explore many different forms of jewelry-making.  At the end of the week, campers will go home with a special jewelry box filled to the brim with new accessories! We ask that your child bring a nut-free snack to camp this week.

Camp 2

June 26 - 30 : "Beading and Jewelry" Sr.

(Ages 8-12)

1pm-4pm

In Just Bead It Sr., campers will learn multiple jewelry-making techniques, such as using jewelry pliers, adding clasps, and bending wire to make earrings. Join us for a fun week of creating accessories ranging from pendant necklaces and charm bracelets to sparkly earrings and backpack keychains! We ask that your child bring a nut-free snack to camp this week. 

Camp 3

July 3 - 7 :  SpaceCamp

(ages 5-10)   

9am-12pm

Blast off with Dot and Line!  In this camp, we'll explore the cosmos through imaginative art making!   What scientists now see through new telescopes brings us so much new insight into color and space, texture and form, and the vastness of the universe beyond Earth. In addition to creating their own “space suit” campers will explore these ideas through theme-based explorations of planets, stars, nebulae, solar systems, alien worlds, UFO's and space ships.  We'll combine multimedia projects to create several extraterrestrial wonders.

 

Camp 4

July 3 - 7 :  Narrative Painting 

(ages 8-12)

In this camp we will look at storytelling through the painted image.  Campers will be introduced to different artists and think about how they tell stories with color choices, subject matter, and brushwork.  Campers will work individually and collaboratively on several different kinds of paintings, a new theme every day, in different styles and mediums, and on different surfaces. If you love painting, and exploring the process of making painting, then this is the camp for you!

Camp 5

July 10 - 14 :  Food Glorious Food

(ages 5-10) 

9am-12pm

In this camp, we will be making multi-media art inspired by all things yummy and delicious!  We'll look at artists who have celebrated food in all visual forms, while we create a multimedia feast for the eyes! From papier-mache ice cream cones, to clay sushi, to Warhol-inspired prints, to sculptural cakes, campers will unleash their inner foodie! Please let us know if your child has any allergies, as we’ll be sampling foods over the course of the week from our neighbors on Beverly Road.

Camp 6

July 10 - 14 : Drawing By Style

(ages 10-13) 

1pm-4pm

Have you ever been interested in different styles of drawing? One of the best ways to learn how to make art is to look at other artist's work. There's a whole world of drawing out there to be explored!  In this camp, we will investigate drawing through different artist's styles and learn a bit of new technique in the process.  If you love drawing, and would like to expand your knowledge of the medium with a bit of art history, then this camp is for you!

Camp 7

July 17 - 21 : Design It! Fashion Design Camp #1 

(ages 8-12)

It's Fashion Week here at Dot and Line.  Prepare to walk the runway with the latest art-fashion on Beverly Road!  Campers will investigate their role as designer and model, to make the latest style!  This camp will take on making wearable art with many different materials, fabrics, dye, paint, and accessories to make unique one-of-a-kind styles.  Some of the projects we’ll be working on include a re-imagined couture t-shirt, block printed infinity scarf, a woven bag, and more!  We'll be inspired by famous designers and artists throughout history to visualize our creations.

Camp 8

July 17 - 21 : Nature & Art

(ages 5-10)

In this camp we’ll explore how artists are inspired by natural materials and the world around them. Campers will learn to make their own natural based plant dyes and to color fabrics, use clay to create animal habitats, learn about light and photography through cyanotypes, create plein air paintings and more!

Camp 9

July 24 - 28 : Design It! Fashion Design Camp #2

July 24 - 28 : Character Craft 

(ages 8-12)

Are you an aspiring comic artist ? Dungeons & Dragons Master? Toy Designer?  Love drawing weird monsters or cuddly kitties? In this camp we will explore a wild world of Character Design: how to draw figures with a few tips and tricks that will get you deeper into understanding and crafting your characters with purpose, movement, and detail. This camp will take a fun approach to drawing with a variety of materials and challenge students to apply a bit of technical drawing skill to their ideas. Throughout the week we will look at many different types and styles of characters, look at a bit of art and comic history, think about storytelling, and look at a few references to be inspired with. We'll also sculpt and paint a 3D model based on one of our designs with Super Sculpey polymer clay.  Super Sculpey is an easy to work with polymer clay that is commonly used by toy designers and the like to bring their ideas to life from 2D ideations.  It is hand-sculpted, baked in an oven, and then painted with acrylic paint.

Camp 11

July 31 - Aug 4 : Mix It Up! Color 

(ages 5-10)

Back by popular demand, this camp will focus on all things COLOR: color mixing, painting on canvas, tie dying, and a collaborative mural.  If you've ever been curious about color, well this is the camp for you!  Campers will dive into a world of color and invent their own color palettes to use.  We will also learn how to turn plants and natural materials into paint and make layered gelli prints with the primary colors.

Camp 12

Aug 7 - 11 : The Circus! 

(ages 5-10)

Come one come all, it’s circus week at Dot and Line! Inspired by Alexander Calder’s circus. The campers will transform the studio by creating a cast of performers and joyful set designs while exploring movement, play, and collaboration. Each camper will create their own circus set that will also serve as a suitcase to hold all of their objects using paint, wire, found objects, and clay. We’ll also learn printmaking techniques by creating our own posters to advertise our show. We might even learn a few tricks of our own (did you know Kate is an excellent juggler?).

Camp 13

Aug 14 - 18 : Home Sweet Home 

(ages 5-10) 

9am-12pm

Back by popular demand...this camp will challenge young interior designers and engineers to customize and decorate a scale model home.  Each camper will receive their own modular wooden structure to design and build their visionary dream home! We will work with a multitude of materials to create a special keepsake over the week.
